ISH 2016-Welcome message from Congress Presidents

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

On behalf of the British Society for Haematology and the International Society of Hematology it is a privilege and pleasure to invite you to the 36th World Congress of the ISH which will be hosted by the BSH at the 56th Annual Scientific Meeting which will be held at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference centre in Glasgow from the 18th to the 21st of April in 2016.  We are honoured to be hosting the ISH meeting again in the UK, the last very successful meeting was held in 1992 when Professor Alastair Bellingham was President of the society and Sir David Weatherall President of the ISH. The meeting will be a tremendous opportunity to interact with haematology colleagues from many different countries.

Although the meeting will show-case the cutting edge of haematology, with many international speakers, there will be an underlying theme of Haematology in Practice with sessions dealing specifically with developing world haematology emphasising the international flavour.  The meeting will be expanded to encompass these international aims and will run over 4 days with nearly 40 scientific sessions.  The programme will cover a wide range of laboratory and clinical haematology issues utilising the experience of a Scientific Committee drawn from both Societies. As usual we will draw on the expertise of the specialty groups supplemented by their international colleagues. We will also look at controversies in training, research opportunities and the future of haematology benefitting from the international flavour. We also hope to introduce smaller, more informal ‘Meet the Expert’ sessions.

We are very fortunate to be able to hold the conference dinner in the fascinating surroundings of the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and will provide plenty of opportunities for our overseas visitors to enjoy the exciting range of venues and activities available in Glasgow and more widely in Scotland. We are grateful for the support of Glasgow City Council in organising the meeting and look forward to seeing you in the spring of 2016. There will be opportunities for everyone, both at the meeting and from the entertainments available in this vibrant city of Glasgow.
