In line with the policy of ISH to attend regional and national hematology meetings and educational activities, ISH has been represented in two regional meetings.
Pan Arab Conference on Bleeding Disorders was held at Alfaisal University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on 30 January- 1 February, 2019.
Professor Sabri Kemahlı, Secretary-General of ISH-European and African Division has served in the Scientific Committee of the Conference.
The Conference was attended by around 400 doctors and scientists.
A pre-conference workshop for medical studets was organized on 30th January 2019. There were two representatives of ISH: Dr. Sabri Kemahlı (Turkey) presented “Use and Choice of Blood components” and Dr. Roula Farah (Lebanon) has presented “Approach to Bleeding Tendency” during this workshop.
An ISH session was held during the meeting which was chaired by Professor Sabri Kemahlı (Turkey). Dr. Kavaklı gave a talk on “Hemophilia Inhibitors” in this session.
8th Pan Arab Hematology Congress and Middle East and North Africa Hematology Congress were jointly held in Madinah, Saudi, Arabia on 1-4 February 2019. The attendance for this meeting was around 600.
An ISH-MENA-PAHA joint session was held, whichhwas chaired by Sabri Kemahlı (Turkey) and Mervet Matter (Egypt).
The speakers and the topics were:
- Transfusion Medicine Education (Sabri Kemahlı, Turkey)
- Hemophilia Inhibitors (Kaan Kavaklı, Turkey)
- Hemophilia in Morocco (Mohammed Alkhorassani, Morocco)
- Role of Imaging in the Assessment and Management of Hemophilic Arthtopğathy (Musa Hawsawi, Saudi Arabia)
- Factor I and VII deficiency (Roua Farah, Lebanon).
Dr. Kaan Kavaklı gave another lecture on “Update in Replacement Therapy in vWD”.
Dr. Sabri Kemahlı has given a presentation on “Use and Choice of Blood Products” and Dr. Roula Farah on “Approach to Bleeding Tendency” in the Medical Studens and Residents Educational Programme.
An ISH booth was displayed during both meeting and mew möember applications were received from attendees.
The presidents of Pan Arab Society of Hematology (PAHA), Saudi Society of Hematology (SSH) and the newly established Middle East and North Africa Hematology League (MENAHL) has shown great interest in the activities of ISH, especially in relation to attending regional and national hematology meetings. They have invited ISH to attend the next PAHA meeting, which will be held in Muscat, Oman in 2020, as well as the future MENAHL meetings.
